Four months into a successful merger
Nearly four months after the merger of Tatham & Co and Sea Green Law, the firm is already seeing the benefits of combining two of the UK’s most respected specialist maritime law practices.
The merged firm has been operating under the Tatham & Co name since 1 April 2025 and is jointly led by partners Stephen Askins and James Hickland of Tatham & Co, and Ted Graham, founder of Sea Green Law. The integration brings together a team with extensive experience, shared values, and a strong track record of collaboration.
The merger enhances the firm’s ability to support clients across the maritime sector, particularly in contentious matters. It strengthens Tatham & Co’s dry shipping and sale of goods practice and enables greater integration with the firm’s existing admiralty and complex environmental teams. The result is a broader, more agile offering to clients — with the depth and flexibility to handle increasingly complex work.
Ted Graham reflected on the move:
"Sea Green Law grew steadily over six years, building a strong client base and team culture. But we recognised the opportunity to do more by joining forces with Tatham & Co. It’s great to be back in London — at the heart of the maritime world — and to be part of a firm that shares our approach and ambitions."
Stephen Askins added:
"Ted and his team have always been highly regarded in the market, and we’re delighted to have them with us. Their expertise adds real depth to our offering, particularly on the dry side, and it’s exciting to see the benefits of the merger already taking shape."
The teams from both firms have a history of working together, and this familiarity has ensured a smooth transition and cultural fit. With aligned values and a shared commitment to practical, commercially focused advice, the merged firm is well positioned to meet the evolving needs of clients across shipping, offshore, marine insurance, trade and aviation.
Clients will benefit from increased capacity, more specialist knowledge, and a stronger bench across key practice areas. The firm remains focused on contentious matters, representing P&I clubs, H&M underwriters, shipowners, charterers, commodity traders, brokers and other maritime stakeholders. With teams working closely across disciplines, the firm is well placed to provide responsive and effective solutions in a complex and competitive sector.
The merger also allows for greater cross-referral between practice areas, enabling clients to access a wider range of support from a unified team. This includes enhanced capability in dry shipping and sale of goods disputes, while also strengthening links with the firm’s admiralty and environmental teams.
Looking ahead, Tatham & Co will continue to serve clients across the UK and internationally, deepening relationships in key maritime hubs and maintaining its focus on high-quality, practical legal support.
